Day-39 Thermopolis, Hot Springs & DINO's
Hi from Thermopolis, Wyoming and the home of Jim & Carol! Carol served a delicious breakfast casserole (sausage, eggs, cheese, bread, cream, half & half) and fruit and muffins and orange juice. The day broke clear and sunny and COLD! Jim had a list of 'must sees'. Neat metal street signs in town: (incl. moose, fish, buffalo, etc) Black Butte in .. background.
When we were walking around the hot springs I received a text from Jessie showing Marty and Charlotte and Tom in front of Fannie May's store in Chicago !! Remember .. Day-32 post ? see his Trinidad's - to the right?
Back home for lunch and then on to :
Wow !! A must see for Cameron & Maggie & Jeanette & Matt & Jessie & Marty ... and ... YOU!
Went home afterwards and I started working on this post as Jim & Carol caught up on football scores. This household was VERY happy as both KANSAS STATE and NEBRASKA won their games!
After a short break, when it became dark we drove out to the 'swinging bridge' near the hot springs park. The bridge spans the Big Horn River. Here it is, lit up : .. see the butte rising up to the right?
One thing I forgot to mention from this morning .. is the reading of the sports pages of the Casper Star-Tribune. They had some results from the state football championships. In Oregon we have 8-man football, but in Wyoming the smallest classification is .. 6-man football. The little town of Farson whose mascot, appropriately, is the Pronghorns, won the title game 73-38 over Burlington. Their previous playoff wins included scores of : 62-19 and 90-22 !
Many THANKS! to Jim & Carol for hosting & spoiling me! Cameron .. come and see the dino's!
On to Western Wyoming, Riverton, Dubois, Jackson, and the Idaho highways to Mountain Home.
Trying to get home for Monday dinner meeting of the Haiti Club, prep for Feb'2019 trip.
Drove to the entry to town to find the "Wedding of the Waters" sign at the start of the canyon :
Early morning sun showcased some of the area's spectacular scenery :
Jim then drove us to the downtown area to look at some buildings. Here's the post office, built 1931.
Jim and I went in to get the mail as Carol visited with a friend that had dogs that wanted her attention.
When Jim & I came out, an old friend greeted the other .. "hey you senile old fart !!"
( missing you, LarryJo ! )

Now .. on to the town's namesake attraction :
Steam is rising from the Hot Springs water running across the terraces to the Big Horn River.
Come and soak in 104-deg water .. it's free!
Clouds are rolling in and .. it's getting colder !!!!
the point is at the left .. and Thermopolis is down in the valley ..

AND .. the Chicago Blackhawks GEAR store was just above .. Fannie May's !!!

Oh Joe, don't encourage the old senile fart! I'm sure Larry would be at home with those dinosaurs. 😊 Going to have to plan a trip to Wyoming. I thought the Tetons was the big draw, but looks like a lot more. Be careful on you drive home!
ReplyDeleteCool dinos! Smoking water looks neat, too.
